Commanders Trade QB Sam Howell to Seahawks, Swap Draft Picks
The Washington Commanders are trading quarterback Sam Howell to the Seattle Seahawks, per multiple reports.
In addition to Howell, Seattle is also receiving a fourth-round pick and a sixth-round pick in the 2024 NFL draft, while the Commanders are getting a third-rounder and a fifth-rounder in return, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.
A recent fifth-round pick out of North Carolina, Howell showed flashes of potential in Washington, but struggled behind one of the worst offensive lines in the NFL last season.
Now in Seattle, Howell replaces Drew Lock as the primary backup quarterback to Geno Smith, and gives the Seahawks some solid, young depth with starting experience at the game's most important position.
Washington is poised to spend the No. 2 pick in this year's draft on a new franchise quarterback, and this deal also allows them to move up in the draft with another third-round selection.
