Scouting the Nation 2024 NFL Draft: The Next Devon Witherspoon
OT Troy Fautanu, Washington
The Huskies starting left tackle, Fautanu, is a freaky athlete. He has the movement skills of a tight end in the body of an offensive lineman. Fautanu is quick off the line and an effortless mover upfield. He gets to the second level quickly and is effective in space. Fautanu should run exceptionally well at the combine. His snatch and trap technique to put defenders in the dirt was excellent, which is rare to see from a college player. In pass protection, Fautanu did a great job of mirroring pass rushers with foot quickness and an explosive kick slide. The biggest plus with Fautanu is that he has five position flexibility. His skill set will translate at all five spots, allowing the team that selects him to put him wherever they have a need, which will only move him up draft boards.
CB Caelen Carson, Wake Forest
The best cornerback in the ACC for the upcoming season, Carson is a really clean prospect. Carson is a loose athlete who does an excellent job of changing direction. He consistently stayed on the wideout's hip pocket and never looked out of control. As a tackler, Carson shows off good technique and a willingness to help in the run game. The closing burst and instincts are also there for him to make plays coming downhill. It was hard to find weaknesses in Carson’s game, which is why he’s the top senior cornerback in the country. Carson could be this year’s Devon Witherspoon, with an astronomical rise that lands him in the first round.
