Senior Bowl: Texas RB Roschon Johnson Injured NFLPA Bowl RB Gets Call-Up
Texas running back Roschon Johnson suffered a broken hand during the 74th Reese’s Senior Bowl, it was reported Wednesday. The powerful running back, known primarily as the backup to Bijan Robinson, was thought to be having a strong week of practice prior to the injury. Fortunately for Johnson, he was able to conduct NFL team interviews before shutting it down for the week. While the injury shouldn’t impact his draft status, it could limit him at the NFL Scouting Combine at the end of the month. Johnson is currently projected as an early Day Three candidate.
Flying into Mobile to replace Johnson will be Texas tech running back SaRodrick Thompson, who impressed scouts at the 11th NFLPA Collegiate Bowl in Pasadena last week. A four-year starter and two-time team captain for the Red Raiders, Thompson brings quick burst explosion capability. His vision, power and balance are an intriguing blend. In addition, Thompson is a capable pass-catcher and strong blocker in pass protection, making him the ideal third down back at the next level. This will be an opportunity to help solidify his draft stock even further.
