Top 100 prospects not invited to combine

— By Frank Cooney, NFLDraftScout.com —

While 326 NFL prospects, and their agents, were glad to see their name on the official invitation list that went out Tuesday for the Scouting Combine, which takes place February 27-to-March 5 in Indianapolis, the mathematical reality check is that only about 66 percent of them will even be drafted.

That isn’t too surprising considering the simple math — 326 invitees and only about 255 or 256 draft spots. So over the last five years, an average of 110 combine goers was not drafted.
On the other hand, during that same time, an average of 34 college hopefuls not invited to the combine were still drafted.
That included a high of 41 in 2014 and a low of 28 last year. Here is the breakdown.
2013 — 31
2014 — 32
2015 — 41
2016 — 38
2017 — 28
With that in mind, we offer here NFLDraftscout.com’s top 100 rated players not on the combine invitation list, which, if all goes according to form, means 34 of these players have a good chance to be drafted.

Even if they are not, there is evidence every year that prospects who are invited and are undrafted still make an impact in the NFL. In Super Bowl LII Sunday, running back Corey Clement caught four passes for 100 yards and a touchdown to help the Philadelphia Eagles shock the New England Patriots, 41-33. He also was the middle man in the Philly Special, the trick play on which quarterback Nick Foles caught a touchdown.

Last year at this time, he did receive an invite to the combine. However, the 5-foot-10, 220-pound back, who spent most of his Wisconsin career in the shadow of Melvin Gordon, was timed in only 4.68 seconds over 40 yards and his vertical jump was only 28.5 inches. So he was undrafted, which may have been an advantage over being selected in the late rounds. He chose to sign his rookie free agent contract with the Eagles.

And this year he is awaiting his Super Bowl ring.

So, the invites are interesting to many and exciting to those who get them. But it is just part of the process.

Here is NFLDraftScout.com’s list of the Top 100 players not invited to the combine.
