Will Mallory
Miami Hurricanes

One-Liners

A player with the requisite size and skillset of a premium tight end, Mallory has to put all the pieces together, showing he can be a truly valuable target.

Evaluation:

Considerable frame. Long-limbed with ample mass from head to toe. Has played in-line as a Y tight end, the “sniffer” role, and as a flexed-out receiver. Long strider that gets from a-b faster than you think. Clean feet in and out of breaks, keeps his angles tight, and routes crisp. Strong hands that shine in close spaces. Will catch the ball in traffic with enthusiasm, showing both play strength and competitiveness. Fast enough to check and release. Makes plays up the boundary, pinching zones with rail routes. Toughness and durability are omnipresent in his game. Runs through the middle with intention, knowing the incoming threats due to his stature. Does his best work as a blocker on defensive backs. Can dig out safeties on screen passes and provide support on wide zone plays. Athleticism trends closer to the mean. Burst and explosion are marginal with some stiffness in short areas. Physicality can be exposed when tasked with blocking bigger edge defenders, often being beaten across face. Mallory is a prospect that just needs to put everything together. Improvements in blocking and better production as a pass-catcher seem obvious for any tight end. But with Mallory, the makings of a promising prospect are there both in his size and tangible traits, meaning the numbers are what must come next.

Quotes:

“When it comes to the Hurricanes’ tight end, results have lagged a bit behind expectations. But he has one more season to show his worth and with Tyler Van Dyke throwing the ball and receivers Charleston Rambo and Mike Harley moving on, Mallory should have plenty of opportunities.”

Alan Rubenstein, Canes Warning

“TE Will Mallory could be big factor in new OC Josh Gattis’ offense.”

Jim Nagy, Director of the Senior Bowl.

"I think there was a lot left that I wanted to prove to myself. There's a lot left that I think I want to go down and be remembered as a Miami Hurricane. This place is special to me. It would be hard to leave and I just wasn't ready to leave yet. I'm fortunate that I get to come back with a special coaching staff, special players, guys like Tyler, new offense that I'm really excited to play in. We've got a good tight end group too that I was excited to come back and lead that. I was really fortunate to be here for one last ride. Just excited to make the most of it." -- Miami TE Will Malloroy on returning for another year

Background:

Will Mallory, from Jacksonville, Florida, has contributed to the Hurricanes offense since his freshman season in 2018. Up until the 2021 season, he started in some games for Miami and also scored numerous touchdowns for the team. Mallory was ranked, in high school, as the best tight end prospect. Mallory has football run in his family too, with his dad, Mike, playing in the Big Ten at Michigan. In 2022, Mallory will be a key pass catcher for the Hurricanes offense.
