Andy Reid's Janitor vs. Eagles: Did Coach Get TD Play from Trash?

Former Philadelphia Eagles coach Andy Reid, now with the Kansas City Chiefs, will take his inspiration from wherever he will find it. Including from the janitor.
In this story:

Former Philadelphia Eagles coach Andy Reid seems, relatively speaking, not driven by ego. So if there is a way to win a football game ... and it's the brainchild of someone besides him? By reputation, yes, he will take his inspiration from wherever he will find it. Including from the janitor.

"He goes, 'I got this play for you,'' said the Kansas City Chiefs head coach, speaking on Green Light with Chris Long. "And he kept telling me this over and over," Reid recalled. "Finally, I said, 'OK, here's a card. Draw up the play.'' ...

Reid was coaching in Green Bay, he said - and maybe it happened against the Eagles? - when along his impressive coaching path this took place, as he is conceding that he took a play design from the guy who ran a custodial company that cleaned his team's facility.

Reid's now-famous willingness to be creative - sometimes to the point of silliness - is helpful in part in order to keep things interesting for his players. ... And in this case, to keeps things interesting for his janitorial service as well.

Reid will likely have something up his sleeve when his Chiefs open the 2023 season against the Detroit Lions on "Thursday Night Football.'' But will that "something'' be as special as that janitor play? After all. ...

"He drew up the play,'' Reid recalled. "And I go, 'Dang, that's pretty good.'"

And the payoff to the story? Reid said the play resulted in a score. ... and that surely when the janitor explained to his wife about how he deserved credit for that particular play, the missus surely didn't believe her hubby.
