Dallas Cowboys Stunned By Philadelphia Eagles' Jalen Carter: 'How The (Bleep) Did They Get You?'
Dallas Cowboys guard Zack Martin could not believe that Jalen Carter fell to the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2023 NFL Draft, and told the rookie so after Philly beat Dallas in a 28-23 thriller in Week 9.
"How the (bleep) did they get you?" Martin said. "Hey, keep going man, you're gonna be special. You're already special. Great job, stay healthy."
As the eight-time Pro Bowler spoke to Carter, the rookie defensive tackle also seemed amazed that he ended up in Philadelphia with the opportunity to play against Martin.
"Hey it's crazy man," Carter said. "It's an honor to go against you."
The Eagles drafted Carter with the No. 9 overall pick in last year's draft out of the University of Georgia, where he won back-to-back National Championships.
Now, he has found himself as one of the best defensive tackles in the league just eight games into his young career (he missed Week 6's loss to the Jets due to injury). He has recorded four sacks, five tackles for loss and two forced fumbles while being ranked towards the top of the NFL in most pressure statistics.
PFF has Carter graded as the second-best defensive tackle in the entire league with a 90.6 grade. He trails only Dexter Lawrence of the New York Giants, who has a 92.3 grade.
Carter is well on his way to being recognized as one of the best defensive tackles in the NFL at just 22 years old. To make matters better, he was drafted by team that represented the NFC in the Super Bowl last season. He may very well win Defensive Rookie of the Year this season and will certainly be in the running for an All-Pro team sooner rather than later.
