Eagles Warned of 'Blinking Lights' by Colin Cowherd
In the NFL, it is not uncommon for a team to experience a significant decline in performance from a highly successful season to a poor one in the following year.
According to Fox Sports 1 radio host Colin Cowherd, there should be concerns that the Philadelphia Eagles might be the team experiencing such a drop-off this season.
"Offensive line is really, really old," Cowherd said. "Nick Sirianni gave up play-calling and then they got really good. Uh oh, they lost both coordinators … I know, Eagle fan, you know you're getting back to the Super Bowl, but there are a lot of blinking lights here."
In addition to Shane Steichen, who left his position as offensive coordinator to become the head coach of the Indianapolis Colts, the Eagles also suffered a loss with the departure of defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon to the Arizona Cardinals. Gannon played a crucial role in the team's journey to Super Bowl LVII, demonstrating his leadership skills by guiding the Eagles to break a franchise record with 70 total sacks.
Cowherd also believes that another contributing factor to the Eagles' potential decline will be their challenging schedule.
"Oh,” he said, “the schedule by the way. Ten teams that made the playoffs on the schedule. Long trips, a lot of trips, great quarterbacks (on the other teams) week after week after week."
The Eagles are slated to confront the most demanding schedule in the league this season, as their 2023 opponents collectively hold the highest winning percentage in the NFL based on the 2022 season.
The Eagles will have many obstacles to overcome this season as they strive to return to the Super Bowl for the second consecutive year. … and maybe they’ll need blinders to avoid the “blinking lights.”
