Howie Roseman: City of Philadelphia Makes Eagles 'Rebuilding' a Dirty Word

The Philadelphia Eagles market, says GM Howie Roseman, is a driving force to the "no-rebuilding'' Super Bowl push.
In this story:

Maybe the expectations are high because the performances of GM Howie Roseman and his Philadelphia Eagles have raised them. Or maybe Roseman is right about it being the result of something special in "our market'' - meaning Philly.

But either way, for the defending NFC champs, it seems "rebuilding'' is now a dirty word.

“Just the word rebuilding, it kind of rubs me the wrong way,” Roseman said this week on the New Heights podcast with Jason and Travis Kelce (ht Clutchpoints.) “Like, we’re about competing, and so how do you say that to your players? How do you tell players (to be patient)?

"You can’t build a culture like that because how do you turn it back on?''

And so, philosophically, the Eagles simply want to never turn it off.

Roseman isn't pretending his Eagles have avoided down years. But he's built a pair of Super Bowl teams (and one winner) during his time here, and when there is a valley?

"I feel terrible about how (the last "valley'') happened,'' he said. "But when you bottom out like that, it actually allows you to flip it quicker.”

The rest of the NFC East, including a good Cowboys team, an improving Giants team and a Commanders team that may be a QB (and an owner?) away stand in the way of the climb. But expectations are high ... and Roseman suggests that's a plus.

“Especially in our market, there is no rebuilding,” Roseman explained. “It’s just (about moving as) quickly as we can to be a championship team. And that’s the goal.”
