Let the NFL season begin ... and let Jalen Hurts watch it with a ball cap on!

The Philadelphia Eagles travel to play the Baltimore Ravens at M&T Bank Stadium on Saturday night in the first of their three preseason games. This matchup is highlighted by a first look at the Eagles new coordinators and a high-profile rookie class that includes first-round selections in defensive tackle Jalen Carter and EDGE Nolan Smith.

The Eagles have a chance to end the Ravens' 23-game winning streak in the preseason dating back to 2016.

Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson will not be playing on Saturday night, according to coach John Harbaugh. The head coach said that none of the team’s other established starters will be playing either.

On Philly's side, keep and eye on Eagles new offensive coordinator Brian Johnson and new defensive coordinator Sean Desai in their debuts.

While fans may have to wait to watch the starters - Hurts is not playing - they will likely see major playing time for Philadelphia's rookies and backups. Some face an uphill battle in terms of making the roster. Others, such as Carter and Smith, could be making a case for starting snaps.

Philly's many roster hopefuls try to earn their spot before Tuesday, Aug. 29, when every NFL team must reduce its roster to no more than 53 players. Philadelphia's 16-player practice squad will then begin to form.

RECORDS: Philadelphia Eagles (0-0) at Baltimore Ravens (0-0)

ODDS: Philadelphia is a 4.5-point underdog vs. the Ravens

GAME TIME: Saturday, Aug. 12, 2023, 7:20 p.m. ET

LOCATION: M&T Bank Stadium, Baltimore, Maryland

THE FINAL WORD: Saturday will be a good look into the Eagles’ running back rotation.

“I think first and foremost, it’s an opportunity for me to get back the feel again of playing football,” Rashaad Penny said this week. “I haven’t played since October, so to get in there, get live game reps and also show the comfortability of the playbook, is huge for me. So I’m excited.”
