Eagles’ Jason Kelce Reveals ‘Most Humbling’ Part of Broadcasting Boot Camp
Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce will return for a 13th season, looking to capture a second Super Bowl title before his excellent playing career concludes.
But it's become increasingly clear that the five-time All-Pro center is laying the groundwork for a media career after he finishes playing.
In addition to having done some fill-in co-hosting for SportsRadio 94 WIP and developing his "New Heights" podcast with his brother Travis, Kelce recently attended a broadcasting boot camp for current NFL players.
In an extended conversation with Rich Eisen, Kelce acknowledged there were some real challenges he faced during the experience.
"Man, it was a humbling experience," Kelce admitted. "Very humbling. We did live TV game analysis, color [commentary]. We did live radio color. We did a podcast. And then we did like a TV studio show ... like a Sunday countdown type show."
Of all the different media hats Kelce got to wear during the camp, he said serving as a color commentator was the most challenging role.
"That was probably the thing that was most intimidating, because that's the most foreign thing," Kelce said. "You know, the TV studio thing, we've all had opinions and you go into it knowing what you're going to talk about.
"... Reacting to a play as it happens, while you're also partnered up with a play-by-play person and trying to fit into a window within the pace of the game ... all of these external factors where you have a plan going in of kind of what you want to hit, but you have to do it within the confines of what's happening in front of you."
Ultimately, Kelce seemed to enjoy the challenge of calling the game, even suggesting there were some similarities to when his brother, Travis, hosted Saturday Night Live in March.
"That was very, very difficult and I think for sure, the most humbling thing we did. But also, I think it's probably the most exhilarating. I mean, when it's happening like that, your adrenaline is going, your senses are up."
Kelce may have a future in broadcasting, but he's got to wait at least one more season as he anchors the Eagles offensive line.
