Miles Sanders Injury: Eagles Ex OUT for How Long?
Probably unfairly, former Philadelphia Eagles running back Miles Sanders has developed a reputation for some as being "injury-prone.'' The fact is, last year, Sanders played in every Eagles game, and he carried a load, with 15 totes per game, along with 11 rushing scores.
That is what the Carolina Panthers hope they are getting following their free agent signing of the elusive back, but Sanders has been dealing with a groin injury throughout training camp and now into the preseason. ... and it looks like Carolina will shut him down for a time.
First-year Panthers coach Frank Reich said on Wednesday that Sanders will sit out this week’s preseason game against the New York Giants, and he suggested that Sanders may also sit out the third and final game of the exhibition season in anticipation of having him healthy enough to be ready for Week 1 of the NGL regular season.
And in that Week 1 for the Panthers, now led by top-drafted rookie quarterback Bryce Young? They open at the Atlanta Falcons, a compelling game in an NFC South that seems ripe for the taking.
The Panthers have some semi-notable names to help out while Sanders rests; Chuba Hubbard and Raheem Blackshear can be short-term answers in Carolina. But while the Eagles have turned the page, in part with the acquisitions of Raashad Penny and D'Andre Swift, Philly fans will surely also be casting an eye to what's up with old pal Sanders.
