Eagles' A.J. Brown Ranked by Peers: Top-10 WR?
Philadelphia Eagles receiver A.J. Brown is beloved by Philly fans after breaking the franchise's single-season receiving record last year. And according to NFL executives, coaches, scouts and players (arguably the most-educated opinions), he's worthy of being a top-10 receiver in the league.
In a poll asking about the NFL's top receivers posted by ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, Brown, the two-time Pro Bowler, rose to the No. 7 spot, after being left off the list last season (with an honorable mention nod.) Interesting note from the survery;
Brown broke out last season with career highs in receptions (88) and yards (1,496) and 11 touchdowns. Brown's 948 yards before the catch ranked third in the league and his 548 yards after the catch ranked second.
In his first season catching passes from quarterback Jalen Hurts, the chemistry was impressive. Brown's receiver passer rating was 112.3, which was fifth-highest in the NFL (among those with 100 targets). He also tied for second in the league with six catches of 40 yards or more.
Along with Brown in the survey are two NFC East division foes in Washington Commander Terry McClaurin (No. 9) and Dallas Cowboy CeeDee Lamb (No. 10). Minnesota Vikings receiver Justin Jefferson, whose 643 yards after the catch led the league, took the top spot in the poll.
Last season, Hurts and Brown led the Eagles to win the NFC and their first Super Bowl berth since claiming the Lombardi in Feb. 2018. Philadelphia's Super Bowl odds are second-best behind the Kansas City Chiefs. Can the Eagles avoid the Super Bowl hangover this year to reach their ultimate goal? With Hurts connecting with Brown, optimism is high.
