Philadelphia Eagles WR A.J. Brown Continues Torrid Stretch in Loss to New York Jets

Philadelphia Eagles receiver A.J. Brown is in the midst of an incredible stretch of production.
In this story:

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts and receiver A.J. Brown failed to connect on what would have been a 64-yard touchdown passto open their third offensive drive of the game Sunday against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium. It's debatable as to whether Hurts overthrew him, or if Brown slowed up a little early underestimating the arm strength of Hurts.

Frankly, it doesn't matter whether the failed connection was the fault of either Hurts or Brown. Before the drive was over, Brown made another game-changing play on what turned out to be a 49-yard reception. The Eagles eventually capped off the drive with a touchdown, as Hurts connected with running back D'Andre Swift for a nine-yard score.

The Eagles would go on to lose 20-14 to the Jets in Week 6, suffering their first loss of the season. However, it was hardly the fault of Brown, who finished the evening with seven catches for 131 yards, the latest chapter in what's turning into a special season for the 26-year-old wideout.

As DeVonta Smith shined, Brown had "just" 11 receptions for 108 yards over the team's first two wins against the New England Patriots and Minnesota Vikings. Much was made of a seeming disagreement between Hurts and Brown on the sideline late in the Week 2 win over the Vikings.

But since then, their connection has been as strong as ever. In the month since the slow start, Brown has caught 31 passes for 564 yards. Over that period, he's averaging 141 receiving yards per contest.

Tyreek Hill of the Miami Dolphins leads the NFL with a staggering 814 receiving yards through the first six weeks of the season, which will almost certainly propel him to his fifth career First-Team All-Pro selection.

But Justin Jefferson of the Minnesota Vikings in now on the IR, which will put him out for at least four games. Former Offensive Player of the Year Cooper Kupp has hit the ground running in his first two games back from the IR, but he also missed four games to open the season. But while Puka Nacua of the Rams, Stefon Diggs of the Buffalo Bills and Ja'Marr Chase of the Cincinnati Bengals are among those who will have something to say about it, Brown is now second in the NFL with 672 receiving yards.

Despite a slow start, Brown is as legitimate a candidate as anyone to fill one of the two other First-Team All-Pro spots.
