Eagles' A.J. Brown: 'I Could Play in NBA!' Jason Kelce Shuts WR Down
Jason Kelce has love for A.J. Brown. But he doesn't believe that his Philadelphia Eagles teammate could seamlessly transition into another professional sports league like the Pro Bowl wide receiver seems to believe.
Brown suggested on Twitter Saturday -- which, it's worth pointing out, was April Fool's Day -- that he thinks he could be a successful NBA bench player. Kelce disagreed:
After being acquired in a draft-day trade with the Tennessee Titans -- which included him signing a four-year/$100 million deal that guaranteed $57.2 million -- Brown put together one of the best individual seasons in Eagles history. In his age-25 campaign, Brown caught 88 passes for 1,496 yards and 11 touchdowns.
The Eagles reached the Super Bowl in Brown's first season with the team, and the wide receiver caught six passes for 96 yards and a touchdown in a 38-35 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
In response to Kelce, Brown countered by touting the potential that he has as a baseball player:
As SI's Alex Prewitt wrote in February, Brown was a 19th-round pick by the San Diego Padres in the 2016 MLB Draft. Had he not been even better at football, Brown likely would have had a real future in baseball.
But the $28.6 million that Brown has earned across his first four NFL seasons are enough to believe that he made the right decision in picking football over any other athletic ambitions.
