Eagles vs. Ravens Preseason: Philly Falls to Baltimore: Live Updates

Follow along for the latest updates on the Philadelphia Eagles-Baltimore Ravens preseason tilt.
In this story:

The Philadelphia Eagles are slated to begin their three-game preseason slate Saturday evening at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, looking to snap what has to be acknowledged as at least a slightly impressive streak for the Ravens.

While there's always a debate about how much preseason games matter -- especially for a team like the Eagles, who are slated to have joint practices with the Cleveland Browns on Monday and Tuesday -- Baltimore coach John Harbaugh values them as much as anyone in the league. For whatever it's worth, the Ravens have won 23 consecutive preseason games, a streak that the Eagles will look to snap Saturday night.

The Eagles have had a tremendous amount of success in coach Nick Sirianni's first two seasons, culminating in a Super Bowl appearance last season. However, preseason success hasn't been a hallmark of the Sirianni Era thus far, as the Eagles are 1-4-1 in the last two preseasons.

Obviously, even in an exhibition game, the Eagles aren't going to enter Saturday's matchup trying to lose. But it will be interesting to monitor how quickly Sirianni calls off the dogs -- the ones that aren't already inactive Saturday -- against a team that's probably more motivated to try to win a preseason game than they are.

Stay tuned for live updates of the game.

First Quarter

Offensive Drive 1: Not surprisingly, last year's NFL MVP runner-up, Jalen Hurts, didn't get the start for the Eagles in the first preseason game of the season. Marcus Mariota -- signed to a one-year, $5 million deal -- instead started under center for Sirianni and company.

Trey Sermon returned the opening kickoff to the 18-yard line, and the Eagles ultimately went on a 14-play 55-yard drive that ended in a 45-yard field goal by Jake Elliott.

While Mariota struggled through the air on the drive -- completing just three of seven pass attempts -- he did rush for 14 yards early in the drive on a third-and-13. Fellow offseason acquisition D'Andre Swift also had a 22-yard rush in the first drive of the game.

Offensive Drive Two: The Ravens went three-and-out on their first offensive drive, but the Eagles weren't able to take advantage of it. While Mariota connected with receiver Greg Ward on three occasions, the second drive for the Eagles offense ended with Elliott pushing a 46-yard field goal wide right.

Second Quarter

Baltimore went on a five-play, 64-yard drive to take a 7-3 lead. The big play on the drive was a 37-yard rush by Justice Hill. Quarterback Josh Johnson -- yes, he's on yet another team -- capped off the drive by connecting with receiver Devin Duvernay for a seven-yard touchdown.

Offensive Drive Three: Rookie quarterback Tanner McKee replaced Mariota at quarterback for the Eagles third drive of the game, and the sixth-round pick completed two of five pass attempts for 35 yards. The eight-play drive finished with Elliott connecting on a 49-yard field goal, which he bent inside the right upright.

Offensive Drive Four: The aforementioned Sermon rushed for a two-yard touchdown to allow the Eagles to retake the lead, 13-7. Sermon's TD came at the end of an 11-play, 73-yard drive. McKee connected with receiver Johnny King on a 33-yard pass, and later completed a back-shoulder throw to Tyree Cleveland that put the Eagles on the doorstep of scoring.

Offensive Drive Five: McKee did find Ward for a 17-yard gain on a 4th-and-1, but the drive ended with Aaron Siposs punting the ball away on a 4th-and-4 from Baltimore's 44-yard line. Naturally, the Ravens got into field goal position and Justin Tucker nailed a 60-yarder as time expired in the first half, cutting the Eagles' lead to 13-10.

Third Quarter

Offensive Drive Six: It's the preseason, so sometimes you don't always take the points. Down 17-13, Sirianni opted to have McKee and the Eagles offense go for it on fourth-and-3 at Baltimore's seven-yard line. McKee connected with receiver Joseph Ngata, an undrafted free agent, but he was out of bounds.

Fourth Quarter

Offensive Drive Seven: Ian Book took over at quarterback for McKee in the fourth quarter, but didn't get a chance to complete his first drive under center. Instead, running back Kennedy Brooks fumbled, and Baltimore recovered.

Offensive Drive Eight: Book took a 21-yard sack on third down from Baltimore cornerback Daryl Worley, forcing a punt from Siposs. But undrafted rookie Eli Ricks would return an interception off of Anthony Brown 31 yards for a touchdown. The Eagles failed on a two-point conversion attempt, however, with Book getting picked off.

Offensive Drive Nine: On what was the final offensive drive of the night for the Eagles, Book failed to connect with Sermon on fourth-and-4, wrapping up a very frustrating night for the former Notre Dame quarterback. Book completed one of four pass attempts, while also taking two sacks. Baltimore has now won 24 preseason games in a row.
