The Philadelphia Eagles are bringing back a familiar face that helped them reach the Super Bowl last season.

Per reports from NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the Eagles are signing Detroit Lions safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson to a three-year deal worth up to $33 million. Gardner-Johnson spent just one season in Detroit after being traded to the Eagles prior to the 2022 season.

"Veteran DB Chauncey Gardner-Johnson is returning to the #Eagles on a three-year deal worth up to $33 million, per his agents Kevin Conner and Robert Brown at @UniSportsMgmt. Gardner-Johnson just turned 26. Now back with the team he helped reach a Super Bowl," Pelissero tweeted.

Gardner-Johnson played in 15 games (including playoffs) with the Eagles in the 2022 campaign, posting 79 total tackles, one sack, six interceptions and nine passes defended.

He was plagued by multiple injuries with the Lions this past season, which kept hm out for all but three regular-season games. However, Gardner-Johnson returned for the postseason and played in all three of Detroit's playoff games.

"CGJ" has played in six playoff games, two NFC Championships and one Super Bowl over the past two seasons. No one except for the Kansas City Chiefs can claim those kind of playoff stripes from the previous two years.

The Eagles and general manager Howie Roseman have already parted ways with veteran safety Kevin Byard and cornerback Avonte Maddox this offseason, but Gardner-Johnson's big new contract shows that the Eagles believe in his ability to revamp what was a poor-performing secondary in 2023.
