Eagles Coach Brian Johnson Interviewing for Panthers Head Coaching Job
Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Brian Johnson could soon be moving his way up the NFL head coaching ranks at just 36 years old.
Per reports from ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Carolina Panthers are expected to interview Johnson for their head coaching vacancy. The Panthers had the worst record in the league this season at 2-15 in the first year under coach Frank Reich. He was fired after a Week 12 loss to the Tennessee Titans brought Carolina's record to 1-10.
As for Johnson, he could be in line to take over a Panthers offense that finished last in total yards per game (265.3), passing yards per game (161.2) and points per game (13.9).
As a former star college quarterback at Utah, where he eventually became a QBs coach at 22 and the offensive coordinator at 25, Johnson could help mentor No. 1 overall pick Bryce Young during his second season under center.
However, when asked about it on Wednesday, Johnson didn't comment on the reports. He's also not allowed to interview until the season is over, which it very well could be for the Eagles when they visit the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday night in the NFC Wild Card.

Under Johnson, the Eagles offense has been inconsistent. Philadelphia started the season 10-1, but lost five of its last six games to end the regular season. The Eagles failed to score at least 20 points in four of those games during the final stretch.
Headed into Monday's playoff game, Johnson will need to have the offense clicking if he wants to add some last-minute improvements to his head coaching resume.
