Could Eagles Ex Jonathan Gannon Go Winless in 1st Season with Cardinals?

Former Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon could be in for a challenging first year as the coach of the Arizona Cardinals.

As former Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon readies himself for his first season as the coach of the Arizona Cardinals, the start of his tenure has already proven to be quite challenging.

First, it was revealed that he tampered with the Cardinals by speaking with them during a period of impermissible conduct. As a result of the tampering, the Cardinals had to swap third-round picks with the Eagles and send them a 2024 fifth-round pick.

Now as he prepares for this season, he is relying on longtime journeyman Colt McCoy as his starting quarterback on a roster with minimal talent.

McCoy is poised to step in due to the injured Kyler Murray, who is in recovery from a torn ACL sustained in Week 14 last year. Bleacher Report holds the belief that due to this situation and the scarcity of viable replacements beyond the journeyman signal-caller, Gannon will make history as the first coach in NFL history to record an 0-17 season.

"Murray is planning to 'take his time until this thing is 100 percent right' and with Arizona almost certainly set to struggle without him, there's no reason to rush the quarterback back into action. Given a 36-year-old Colt McCoy ... and rookie fifth-round pick Clayton Tune are the backup options for this club, the league's first 0-17 campaign may just be on the horizon," Bleacher Report writes.

Considering the unlikelihood of Gannon having Murray back in the lineup anytime soon, the former Eagles defensive coordinator will likely face difficulties in shaping a competitive team this season.
