D'Andre Swift Trade Message to Eagles: ‘Let's Work!’
The Philadelphia Eagles have acquired running back D'Andre Swift from the Detroit Lions. … and the Philly native has delivered a homecoming message.
“Let’s work!” said Swift via social media after being involved in a deal that means the Lions received a fourth-round pick in 2025 and a seventh-rounder (No. 219) this year, while Philadelphia gets Swift and Detroit's seventh-round pick (No. 249).
The Eagles have added several former Georgia players to their roster during the draft, and Swift the fourth guy from that university to join the team this weekend. General manager Howie Roseman selected defensive tackle Jalen Carter, linebacker Nolan Smith, and cornerback Keele Ringo earlier in the draft.
Swift was moved after the Lions drafted Alabama running back Jahmyr Gibbs with the No. 12 overall pick. That team also inked former Chicago Bears starting running back David Montgomery to a three-year, $18 million contract in free agency, leaving Swift as the odd man out.
Next season, it's probable that Swift will take on a large role for the Eagles as they lost their 2022 Pro Bowl running back, Miles Sanders, in free agency this year. Sanders signed a four-year $25 million contract with the Carolina Panthers.
Swift's three-year NFL career has been impressive, accumulating over 1,600 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns. However, concerns linger over his durability, having missed eight games in the last two seasons.
The Eagles' running back room now boasts a mix of talent including Rashaad Penny, Boston Scott, Kenny Gainwell and Trey Sermon, with the addition of Swift adding even more depth to the position.
