Eagles Ex Doug Pederson Makes Move, Signs Son to Jags

Old Eagles pal Doug Pederson is adding a familiar face to Jacksonville's roster - The Jaguars coach is signing his son.
In this story:

As Philadelphia Eagles fans know. Doug Pederson is a Super Bowl-level coach. He’s also known as a family guy.

But none of that is going to prevent Jacksonville watchers from bringing up the word “nepotism” with the Jaguars’ new roster move …

The Jags just waived tight end Leonard Taylor in order to make room for a new tight end named … Josh Pederson.

Yes, that’s the Josh who had a cup of coffee with the 49ers, Saints and Chiefs (without ever playing in a game) before most recently playing for the Houston Gamblers of the USFL.

This isn’t Doug’s first push for this sort of transaction. Back in 2021, while he was coaching the Eagles, Pederson made the push for his son (6-5, 235) to get a 90-man roster spot somewhere in the NFL after Josh finished at at Louisiana-Monroe:

Said Doug then: “Any team that is willing to give Josh an opportunity, that's great. If it’s Philly, that's awesome. It's a great place to play, great fanbase, and he'd have an opportunity to do that. There are 32 teams, and hopefully, one of them takes a shot on him.”

And now one of the 32 teams has again done that - because Dad’s taken care of it himself. The 25-year-old Josh, as a coach’s son, is certainly used to the scrutiny of bring “the coach’s son” … though this move arguably takes that scrutiny to another level, even though it’s likely only about Jags Job No. 90.
