Eagles Cut Devon Allen: 'I'm Definitely' Fastest WR In NFL!

Philadelphia Eagles receiver Devon Allen believes that he is the fastest player at his position in the NFL. But he didn’t make the 53-man cut.
In this story:

Philadelphia Eagles receiver Devon Allen doesn't possess the on-field credentials that can rival those of Miami Dolphins receiver Tyreek Hill or Seattle Seahawks receiver DK Metcalf. After all, at 28, he was still working to secure a spot on the Eagles' roster.

However, when asked if he is the fastest receiver in the NFL, Allen is confident that he has secured that title despite in the conversation with a handful of stars.

"I definitely am," Allen said.

Nevertheless, Allen, a three-time U.S. national champion and two-time Olympian in the 110-meter hurdles, has been cut by Philly ahead of the Tuesday deadline to 53.

Allen has an incredible athletic background. He attained a fourth-place finish at the 2021 Summer Olympics and at last year's World Championships.

Additionally, in a recent USATF event held in New York, Allen showcased his talent and recorded an impressive time of 13.04 seconds, which currently ranks fourth globally for the 2023 calendar year.

While both Hill and Metcalf have dabbled in track-and-field, Allen emphasizes a clear distinction between elite football speed and the top-tier speed in the track-and-field world.

"I'm not gonna roast those guys because what they did was impressive," Allen said. "I raced Tyreek Hill when I was in high school. We raced and he smoked me when we were in high school, and DK Metcalf ran a 10.3 a couple years ago is super impressive for a guy that's 6-4 ... 225. But I think especially at the top level—top five, top 10 in the world—there's a big gap in terms of just performance."

With an impressive offseason under his belt, Allen set his sights on earning a spot on the Eagles' 53-man roster and utilizing his speed to make an impact in the upcoming 2023 season. It’s not a surprise he’s been released … and maybe the practice squad is in his future.
