Philadelphia Eagles' Haason Reddick Says Goodbye to Cast: 'Extremely Happy!'

Philadelphia Eagles pass rusher Haason Reddick wouldn't use his thumb injury as a reason he has yet to record a sack, and now he will face off across from Andrew Wylie, who held him without a sack in last year's Super Bowl.

PHILADELPHIA – Haason Reddick bid farewell to the cast he wore for the first three games. Will the Philadelphia Eagles pass rusher now say hello to some sacks?

“Everything feels well, so I’m officially done with the cast,” he said on Thursday as the undefeated Eagles prepare to host the Washington Commanders (2-1) on Sunday (FOX/1 p.m.). “I’m not going to make any excuses, that’s not what I do, but I’m extremely happy to be out of it, I’ll say that.

“I’m still going out there and give my full effort no matter what condition I’m in as long as I’m able to play.”

The excuse would be the cast was the reason Reddick remains sack-less through three games, just a year after putting up 16 in the regular season. He won’t go there, though.

Reddick had a more nuanced answer for why he doesn’t have any sacks, or, for that matter, the team has just six after posting 70 last season.

“They (offenses) are chipping us at an alarming rate, which is expected,” he said. “Not just me, but in general. We had three guys in the D-end room alone who had double-digit sacks, so our edges are being chipped at a high rate, guys (quarterbacks) are staying shallow in the pocket which is opening a lot of opportunities for the DTs, but things will start changing soon.

“They can’t block everybody; they can’t double-team everybody. Guys are going to start getting more one-on-one opportunities and chances and everybody will be able to make plays.”

Sunday’s matchup for Reddick is an interesting one. He will be lined up across from Commanders' tackle Andrew Wylie. Wylie played for the Kansas City Chiefs last year and held Reddick without a sack in the Super Bowl.

“We all saw how the first matchup went,” said Reddick. “I don’t even want to bring up the Super Bowl, we talked about it so many times. Everybody knows what the conditions were, so we’re going to let that one go.

"It’s not even about him and the matchup, and I’m just extremely happy to be out of the cast this week and get out there with another opportunity to go play ball.”
