BREAKING: Eagles ‘Expected’ to Hire Vic Fangio After Dolphins Departure

The Philadelphia Eagles swung big Wednesday afternoon with their first hiring of the coaching cycle to help overhaul a struggling defense.

The coaching search in Philadelphia is going a lot better than it did last season for the Eagles.

After losing Super Bowl LVII, the Birds lost both play-calling coordinators to head coaching jobs in both Arizona and Indianapolis. During that process, the team failed to bring in top offensive and defensive minds which directly resulted in changes being made to both sides of the ball after the 2023-24 season.

Luckily for Philadelphia, the latest coaching search just got a whole lot better.

Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Vic Fangio and the team have agreed to part ways after one season together as first reported by Adam Schefter. Fangio, now a free agent, is likely to be hired by the Eagles to be "closer to his family in Pennsylvania."

“Fangio now will be the top target for the Philadelphia Eagles to hire as their defensive coordinator, and a deal is expected,” Schefter tweeted. “Miami is allowing Fangio to leave to be closer to his family in Pennsylvania. Fangio and the Eagles had an interest in working together in 2023, but the timing didn’t work. This time it will.”

In his lone season with Miami, Fangio's defense finished 10th in yards allowed and seventh against the run. This came despite numerous injuries to key players throughout the season like Jalen Ramsey, and Bradley Chubb.

Fangio will be tasked with turning around an Eagles defense that was the worst in football down the stretch. After struggling under Sean Desai, a late coaching change to Matt Patricia spelled doom for a unit that had dealt with injuries both in the secondary and at linebacker.

Both the Eagles and Fangio have a history together as well.

Eagles Trade Hurts? 'Incompetent' Florio Starts Laughable Rumor

Fangio was a coaching assistant for Philadelphia during their Super Bowl run last year. He was expected to be a top target to replace Jonathan Gannon but left for Miami after Gannon and the Cardinals were charged with tampering during Super Bowl preparation.

After missing out on Fangio last season, it appears the Eagles will finally get their guy on defense.
