Eagles Hiring Coach Bill Belichick Idea Pushed by Media: 'A Perfect Fit!'?

Philadelphia Eagles Hiring Coach Bill Belichick Idea Pushed by Media: 'A Perfect Fit!'?

If you are an NFL fan paying attention to the Bill Belichick news, you have no doubt caught on to how the national media is working its rumor mill. That is to say, make sure no stone is unturned when it comes to pretending there is a connection between the now-available coaching legend and Team X.

Well, 31 Team X's. And yes, that means something thinks the New England Patriots ex is coming to the Philadelphia Eagles. And this thought cannot be "suggested'' or "hinted at'' or, if the media outlet is honest, "Hey, I'm just spit-ballin' here.''

No. The "report'' must come with psuedo-logic and with poetic passion.

sirianni and belichick

The pseudo-logic to Belichick coaching the Eagles next season? That's being handled by FS1's Nick Wright this week.

"Isn't (Philly) the perfect spot for Belichick? All that talent on defense. The offensive skill position guys are already there," Wright said. "It's like, the offense is in place. The defense has all this blue-chip talent up front, and Belichick has been getting the most out of secondary players and linebackers for 20 years. Cold weather, northeastern city with a blue-chip franchise, chance to break Shula's record, chance to get to the Super Bowl.''

Wright also handles the "poetry'' here, calling the pairing "a hand-in-glove fit."

What's missing here, journalistically? Putting aside the insistence that Belichick wants to coach in a "cold-weather city'' (he does?) ... To our knowledge, nobody inside the Belichick circle has been asked about Philly. And nobody inside the Eagles has been asked about Belichick.

In the end, this is yet another artificially-generated concept, exactly like all the other ones that have Belichick as "a good fit'' for every single vacancy available ... and a "good fit'' in some places that already have a coach!

Fire Nick Sirianni? Schefter on 'Spoiled' Eagles Coach Debate

Oh, and there is one more thing: Don't the Eagles already have a coach?

"If they lose to Tampa (in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs this weekend) and they fire him ...'' Wright said.

Ah yes. There is that.
