Eagles, Colts Set for Reunion at Preseason Joint Practice
The Philadelphia Eagles are set to get in some extra quality time with a few former teammates and coaches ahead of this season.
Philly announced Friday that it will host a preseason joint practice with the Indianapolis Colts on Tuesday, Aug. 22. This will reunite former Eagles with current Colts and vice versa in a scrimmage at the NovaCare Complex before the two teams face off in Week 3 of the preseason at Lincoln Financial Field on Thursday, Aug. 24.
Per previous reports from The Athletic, the Eagles will host the Cleveland Browns for a joint practice as well before their Week 2 preseason game in Philly, though this has not been officially announced.
The Eagles beat the Colts 17-16 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Week 11 of last season to move to 9-1. Jalen Hurts ran up the middle of the red zone untouched for a go-ahead seven-yard rushing touchdown with 1:20 to play in the fourth, as Philly captured the road win.
With the practice scrimmage, former Colts offensive coordinator and current Eagles coach Nick Sirianni will be able to get a better at Philly's Week 3 preseason opponent in the Colts. They'll be lead by rookie head coach and former Eagles offensive coordinator Shane Steichen, who was hired by Indianapolis to be the 21st head coach in franchise history this offseason.
It's possible former Eagles quarterback Gardner Minshew, who signed with the Colts in March, gets the start for the exhibition game or at least some guaranteed snaps. Both he and first-round rookie Anthony Richardson could potentially be in position battle, and will be looking to carve up the Eagles defense.
The offseason excitement will be at its highest by the time late August rolls around for these two teams, making the practice and preseason game a potential true preview of what's to come for Week 1.
