Eagles Sign Suspended Ex Colts CB Isaiah Rodgers; Return in 2024?
The Philadelphia Eagles are keeping true to their "connection" with the Indianapolis Colts.
The team announced on Monday that they've signed former Colts cornerback Isaiah Rodgers, who was released by Indianapolis on June 29 after it was announced that he would be suspended indefinitely for violating the league's gambling policy.
The Eagles are showing they have tons of confidence in Rodgers' ability to eventually contribute to the secondary by signing him before another team does.
Rodgers is suspended for at least the 2023 season and is expected to join the Eagles next offseason. The contract he is signing with Philly will be for the 2024 campaign. He won't be eligible for reinstatement until after this season.
Rodgers, 25, was a sixth-round pick by the Colts in 2020 out of UMass and has played in 45 career games. He's posted 90 total tackles (68 solo), one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, three interceptions and 10 passes defended. All three of his picks came in the 2021 season.
He had a 101-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in Week 5 of the 2020 season against the Cleveland Browns. Against the Eagles last season, Rodgers had four total tackles.
Despite the suspension, he'll now look to make his way back to the field and join his new teammates next season.
