Eagles QB Jalen Hurts 'Runs The Show,' Says Patriots' Bill Belichick
New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick had high praise for Philadelphia Eagles star quarterback Jalen Hurts ahead of their upcoming Week 1 matchup at Gillette Stadium on Sunday.
"Hurts does a great job of running the show," Belichick said. "Executing the offense but also making off-schedule plays. Can run, throw, they've got two great receivers, good tight end, some explosive backs. ... They have a good plan of attack, it'll be a big challenge for us."
Hurts is coming off of an MVP-caliber season in which he threw for 3,701 yards and 22 touchdowns in addition to rushing for 760 yards and 13 touchdowns. The Eagles went 14-1 in the 15 games that he started last season, and his performance was good enough to earn him a second-place finish in MVP voting.
Philadelphia was a dominant force on both sides of the ball last season, rolling over teams on its way to a matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII. The Eagles lost 38-35 while Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes received his second Super Bowl MVP.
Now the Eagles will begin a new quest to get back to the big game, starting with a rematch of Super Bowl LII against the Patriots. With both Tom Brady and Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles no longer on NFL teams, both sides will look a lot different from when that game was played.
Philadelphia and New England will open the season at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough on Sept. 10 at 4:25 p.m.
