Eagles Jalen Hurts Ranked by Peers; Top 3 QB?
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts can be a hot topic, depending on who you are talking to. And according to the conversation among NFL executives, coaches, scouts and players (arguably the most-educated opinions), Hurts is a top-10 quarterback in the league.
In a poll of the NFL's top quarterbacks by ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the Pro Bowler ranked as sixth-best entering this season, after being unranked headed into last year.
Hurts had a breakout campaign last season when he led the Eagles to an appearance in Super Bowl LVII. He threw for 304 yards and a touchdown, and set the record for most rushing yards (70) and rushing touchdowns (three) by a quarterback in Super Bowl history.
His 18 rushing touchdowns represent the most by a quarterback in a single season in NFL history. In total, Hurts combined for 4,461 yards and 35 touchdowns. Hurts finished No. 2 in MVP voting behind Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes last season.
Mahomes topped the poll as the league's best quarterback. Last season, Mahomes won his second regular season MVP, his second Super Bowl MVP and his second Lombardi Trophy. Expectations remain high for the reigning Super Bowl champion Chiefs, who are favorites to again win the title.
Last season, Hurts led the Eagles to win the NFC and their first Super Bowl berth since claiming the Lombardi in Feb. 2018. Can they avoid the Super Bowl hangover this year to reach their ultimate goal? With Hurts under center, optimism is high.
