Eagles' Jalen Hurts 'Cares Not to Comment' on Phone Background
Jalen Hurts doesn't want to discuss the picture he currently has saved as the lockscreen background on his phone, but the selection by the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback seems to be self-explanatory.
Peter King of NBC Sports recently visited Training Camp for the Eagles, and in a one-on-one conversation with Hurts, he asked the quarterback why he currently is using a picture of himself walking off the field after losing to the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII as the lockscreen for his phone.
"I care not to comment on that," Hurts said politely. "You guys wouldn't know [that's my background] if it was up to me. So, there ain't much to say about it."
The reality is while this was a good question asked by King, nothing really needs to be said by Hurts to understand why he's decided that's the photo that will appear every time he wants to unlock his phone. It serves as a reminder for Hurts of how close the Eagles came to hoisting a Lombardi Trophy, and probably adds some extra fuel to the fire every day as he's preparing for this season. It's the type of thing that a mental health expert would tell you not to do in terms of dwelling on a negative event of the past. But it takes a certain amount of negative inspiration to be a top-tier quarterback in the NFL.
Despite a second-quarter fumble that Chiefs linebacker Nick Bolton returned for a touchdown, Hurts was largely excellent in Super Bowl LVII. He completed 27 of 38 passes for 304 yards and a touchdown, while adding three more touchdown runs on the ground. In probably 75 percent of the Super Bowls that have been played, that would have earned him the MVP of the game. But in this case, Patrick Mahomes was on the other sideline.
And so, Hurts' phone background is him walking off the field in Arizona with red and white confetti falling on him. And while he probably won't ever tell, it's fair to wonder if that will remain his phone background until a picture exists of green and white confetti falling on Hurts instead.
