Philadelphia Eagles' Jason Kelce Treating Monday Night vs. Seattle Seahawks 'Similar to a Playoff Game'
PHILADELPHIA – Jason Kelce is in his 13th NFL season, all with the Philadelphia Eagles, and the veteran center has never emerged victorious against the Seattle Seahawks.
That’s not what makes Monday night’s game at Lumen Field so important. While it would be nice to add the Seahawks to a list of teams he has beaten in his career, it’s important for other reasons.
The Eagles need to end their two-game losing streak, a first for them with Jalen Hurts at quarterback since Weeks 6 and 7 of the 2021 season.
They need a win to keep their hopes alive for the top seed in the NFC playoffs, which, at the moment, is a spot held by the San Francisco 49ers. They need a win to try to keep their hopes alive to win back-to-back NFC East championships. And they need a win for their psyche.
“This is a huge game for us,” said Kelce. “This is, for all intents and purposes, very similar to a playoff game. It’s not one and done but this has huge implications with the big picture and for us, we’re coming off a two-game slide where this is a big moment for us to show who we are and get back to playing football the way we want to and the way we had before.”
The last time the Eagles beat the Seahawks was in 2008 when Seneca Wallace was at the controls of Seattle’s offense and Donovan McNabb ran the show for Philly.
Since then, the Eagles are 0-7 against Seattle. Russell Wilson was the quarterback in those games and he owned the Eagles. Wilson is now with the Denver Broncos and it appears as if Geno Smith will be the quarterback on Monday night after missing Week 14's loss to the San Francisco 49ers due to injury.
Kelce was on the winning side of an earlier game this season against the Kansas City Chiefs, and that was the first time he had ever beaten them. He is, however, 0-1-1 against the Cincinnati Bengals.
“Not a lot of opportunities (against the Bengals), but we’ve played Seattle a lot and they’ve had our number,” he said. “…First of all, there’s a lot of teams that haven’t beaten the Seahawks. They’ve been a very good team over the last decade plus.”
Kelce singled out Seattle head coach Peter Carroll as being a great coach and a defense that he said was “probably the greatest defense of the last decade, arguably, at least.”

“So, they’ve had a lot of winning teams and a lot of good football,” Kelce added. “I think we’ve been close a couple times, but close is only good in horseshoes and whatever else they say.
"So, looking forward to getting another opportunity to go out there with the guys in this locker room, try to get things corrected and hopefully it’s a much better performance than before.”
