Eagles' Jason Kelce: Snubbed by Best O-Line List?

A new countdown ranked the best interior offensive linemen in the NFL, and Jason Kelce of the Philadelphia Eagles didn't claim the top spot.
In this story:

Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce is probably getting sick of finishing in second place. Five months after Kelce and the Eagles lost 38-35 to the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII, the six-time Pro Bowler came in at No. 2 on CBS Sports' countdown of the top interior offensive linemen in the NFL ahead of the 2023 season:

"On his way to the Hall of Fame, Kelce had his best season as a pass blocker at the age of 35. Kelce didn't allow a sack or a quarterback hit in 2022, giving up just eight pressures with a pressure rate allowed a career best of 1.3% (third best amongst all NFL players, minimum 500 snaps.)"

The only interior offensive linemen who finished above Kelce was Dallas Cowboys' right guard Zack Martin. And there's not much wrong with the Martin-related part of this deal ...

Let's note that it's hard to accuse the list of any bias when the writer, Jeff Kerr, is Philadelphia-based and does a tremendous job. Secondly, for as increasingly likely as Kelce seems to be to one day be a Hall of Famer, Martin figures to have a bust of his own in Canton after his excellent career concludes.

A first-round pick in 2014, Martin is an eight-time Pro Bowler, and has been selected as a First-Team All-Pro on six occasions, one more than Kelce. The 32-year-old was also selected to the Hall of Fame's All-2010s Team, despite his rookie season not coming until 2014.

Though Kelce wasn't No. 1 overall on this list, he was till the top-ranked player at his position, which hasn't been universal in some preseason lists. Pro Football Focus gave Chiefs center Creed Humphrey the top mark on their positional rankings earlier this summer, with Kelce coming in second. On this CBS countdown of all interior offensive linemen, Kelce finished three spots above Humphrey, who came in at No. 5.
