Chip Kelly Returning to NFL as 'Package Deal' with Dallas Cowboys Coach? Philadelphia Eagles Tracker

JAN 24 CHIP COMEBACK? Is Chip Kelly returning to the NFL? That's the rumor out of Seattle as the Seahawks zero in on the possibility of stealing defensive coordinator Dan Quinn from Dallas to serve as their head coach ... with Kelly - a great success in that region as the Oregon coach before coming to take over the Eagles - as his offensive coordinator.

A "package deal'' is the terminology being used regarding Quinn and Kelly, who spent four years as an NFL head coach, with a record of 26-21 with the Eagles from 2013 through ’15 before going 2-14 with the 49ers in ’16.

More on Quinn and Kelly here.

JAN 10 HALABY INTERVIEWING FOR NFC EAST RIVAL A member of the Philadelphia Eagles front office could be interviewing for a promotion with a division rival.

According to Sports Illustrated reporter Albert Breer, Eagles assistant general manager Alec Halaby is interviewing to become the GM for the Washington Commanders.

Halaby has worked for the Eagles for 16 years and became the assistant general manager in 2022.

DEC 31 PICK-6 FOR 99 The Eagles offense has in the first quarter combined with the defense to put Philly up 14-3 over Arizona.

Safety Sydney Brown picked off Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray at the Eagles’ 1-yard-line on a deep-ball throw and then weaved and sprinted his way for a 99-yard touchdown.

And it looked something like that!

DEC 30 HURTS AND SAQUON FINED!

You don't see this too often: Two stars in the same game both being handed big-time fines by the NFL for tackling ... even though both guys play on offense!

That's what's happened with Jalen Hurts and with Saquon Barkley, each of whom has just been fined for the way they tackle.

The incidents happened in last week's Philadelphia Eagles win over the New York Giants. There was Hurts with what the league says is a horsecollar tackle at the end of his pick-6 interception ...

And not to be outdone, here is Saquon earning what the league says is unneccessary roughness for his play.

Barkley got fined $21,855. Hurts got fined $16,391.

DEC 17 COWBOYS LOSE VS. BILLS The Philadelphia Eagles will have a chance to reclaim first place in the NFC East on Monday Night Football after the Dallas Cowboys lost 31-10 to the Buffalo Bills.

A win against the Seattle Seahawks would give the Eagles the No. 2 overall seed in the NFC behind the 11-3 San Francisco 49ers, who beat the Arizona Cardinals.

Kickoff between the Eagles and Seahawks is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. ET.

DEC 16 EAGLES RULE OUT 3 VS SEATTLE The Philadelphia Eagles have ruled out three players in advance of Monday night's meeting with the Seattle Seahawks at Lumen Field following the final practice session of the week Saturday.

Cornerback Darius Slay (knee), guard Cam Jurgens (pectoral) and linebacker Zach Cunningham (knee) will all be out against Seattle. News broke Saturday that Slay underwent arthroscopic knee surgery this week, but is expected to return before the end of the regular season.

Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts (illness) and defensive end Josh Sweat (personal) also sat out of Saturday's practice but there's been no indication that their status for Monday will be impacted.

Here's the full injury report:

DEC 10 TRICKERY The Philadelphia Eagles found themselves down in a 10-0 hole in the first half of Sunday's meeting with the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium. The Eagles needed a spark, but were forced to punt after going three-and-out to begin the second quarter.

At least so it seemed.

Eagles punter Braden Mann sold it well, waiting until the last moment before pulling out of his punting motion and tossing a 28-yard pass to receiver Olamide Zaccheaus on 4th and 2. The Eagles weren't able to reach the end zone on the extended possession, but still got a 52-yard field goal out of it to make it a one-possession game at 10-3.

Mann, who played three seasons with the New York Jets, went 1 of 2 passing for 17 yards during the 2022 season in East Rutherford.

Take a look at the play:

DEC 6 COACH MCCARTHY SURGERY The Dallas Cowboys are suddenly shorthanded as coach Mike McCarthy has just been scheduled for surgery on Wednesday to deal with acute appendicitis.

He is expected to be in and out of the hospital today. ... but that still could have an impact on "Sunday Night Football'' with the 10-2 Philadelphia Eagles going to DFW to take on the 9-3 Cowboys.

For now? The Dallas coordinators Dan Quinn, Brian Schottenheimer and John Fassel will step up to oversee practice in McCarthy's absence.

DEC 3 BIG DOM The Philadelphia Eagles are looking for anything to give them a spark as they trail the San Francisco 49ers in the second half of Sunday's meeting at Lincoln Financial Field.

But who would've expected that to come from Eagles senior advisor of security Dom DiSandro?

After 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw threw Eagles receiver DeVonta Smith to the ground on the Philly sideline, Greenlaw started talking to DiSandro and poked him near the eye while pointing at him.

Both Greenlaw and DiSandro were ejected

NOV 30 EAGLES VS SEAHAWKS FLEXED The Philadelphia Eagles and Seattle Seahawks are still scheduled to meet at Lumen Field in Week 15. But instead of Sunday, the game will now be played on Monday Night Football, as the NFL announced Thursday that Seahawks-Eagles will replace Kansas City-New England.

It marks the first time ever that the NFL has flexed a Monday night game.

ESPN's Adam Schefter provided more details on X:

"The first-ever Monday Night Football flex: the NFL is flexing Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce off of Monday Night Football in Week 15, replacing the Dec. 18 Chiefs at Patriots game with Eagles at Seahawks. Eagles now will have three consecutive standalone games from Weeks 14-16: Week 14: at Dallas on SNF Week 15: at Seattle on MNF Week 16: Giants on Christmas Day."

NOV 29 JAKE ELLIOTT HONORED BY NFL Philadelphia Eagles kicker Jake Elliott is being honored by the league after his performance on Sunday against the Buffalo Bills.

Elliott kicked a game-tying 59-yard field goal in the rain with seconds to go in Sunday's win against the Bills.

Elliott has made 90.5 percent of his field goal attempts so far this season.

NOV 27 DEREK BARNETT CLAIMED Former Philadelphia Eagles first-round draft pick Derek Barnett was claimed off waivers by the Houston Texans on Monday, per multiple reports.

Barnett was waived by the Eagles on Friday after spending his first six NFL seasons in Philly. He was the No. 14 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft and has a Super Bowl ring.

Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Texans tried to trade for Barnett prior to the deadline but were unable to strike a deal with Eagles general manager Howie Roseman.

Barnett has played in 72 games while posting 150 total tackles, 21.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and four blocked kicks.

The Eagles host the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET.

NOV 26 CUNNINGHAM INJURED Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Zach Cunningham was questionable to return to Sunday's game against the Buffalo Bills due to a hamstring injury. However, the Eagles have now officially ruled him out for the remainder of the game.

The Eagles defense has had some trouble slowing down Josh Allen and the Bills offense, making the loss of Cunningham all the more worrisome moving forward

The Eagles lead 28-24 late in the fourth quarter.

NOV 26 EAGLES VS BILLS INACTIVES The Philadelphia Eagles have revealed their inactives for Sunday’s meeting with the Buffalo Bills at Lincoln Financial Field.

Eagles offensive tackle Lane Johnson is officially out due to a groin injury.

NOV 16 DEAN TO IR The Philadelphia Eagles announced Thursday that they’ve officially placed linebacker Nakobe Dean on IR due to his foot injury.

“Eagles LB Nakobe Dean has been diagnosed with a Lisfranc sprain, sources tell me and @RapSheet,” NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo tweeted on Nov. 8. “Dean, who called the defensive signals to start this season, will see a foot specialist to determine a course of action but he’s expected to be placed on IR.”

In Dean’s minimal four-game absence, the Eagles will lean on linebackers Nicholas Morrow and Zach Cunningham.

Coming off their bye week, the Eagles visit the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday.

NOV. 14 BILLS FIRE OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR The Buffalo Bills have moved on from offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey on Tuesday, per NFL insider Adam Schefter.

The decision comes after the Bills' 24-22 loss to the Denver Broncos on Monday Night Football at Highmark Stadium. Buffalo turned the ball over four times in the loss, with Josh Allen accounting for three of them.

The Philadelphia Eagles (8-1) play the Bills (5-5) on Nov. 26 at Lincoln Financial Field at 4:25 p.m. ET.

NOV. 9 COWBOYS LEGEND GUARANTEES WIN IN EAGLES REMATCH - Michael Irvin's final moment as an NFL player was spent being carried off the field on a stretcher at Veterans Stadium. He is a Hall of Famer, and the admitted "favorite all-time player" of Jerry Jones.

Irvin is also a media mouthpiece, who nauseatingly lets his Dallas Cowboys bias ooze into his microphone. He also holds a "special" place in his heart for Philly.

On Monday's episode of Fox Sports 1's Undisputed - in the wake of the Eagles' exhilarating win over his beloved CowboysIrvin guaranteed his former team would win the teams' Dec. 10 rematch at AT&T Stadium.

"What we saw is, no, Philly is not too much for Dallas," Irvin said. "No, Philly's not. Dallas, you are right there, and I guarantee you - I believe Dallas would win this game in Dallas ... Dallas will win the game in Dallas."

NOV 8 DEAN TO IR? LB Nakobe Dean has been diagnosed with a Lisfranc sprain, sources tell NFL Network, and the expectation is now that he will be moved to IR.

Dean will reportedly see a foot specialist to determine a future course of action but he’s expected to be out of action for the Eagles, who lost him to the injury in Sunday's win over the Cowboys.

NOV 5 NAKOBE DEAN INJURED Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Nakobe Dean suffered an injury in the first half of Sunday's meeting with the Dallas Cowboys at Lincoln Financial Field. He has now been ruled out due to a foot injury.

Dean was seen walking to the locker room prior to halftime, and didn't return. He posted three total tackles, a half a sack, and one quarterback hit.

The Eagles lead Dallas 21-17 in the third quarter.

NOV 2 NFC PLAYER OF THE MONTH Philadelphia Eagles receiver A.J. Brown had himself a month totaling 700 yards and five touchdowns on 40 receptions, which was enough for the NFL to recognize him as the NFC's Player of the Month for October.

Brown has played in all eight games thus far for the Eagles, totaling 939 yards and five touchdowns on 60 receptions.

The Eagles and Brown will be in action next on Sunday when they host the Dallas Cowboys inside Lincoln Financial Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:25 p.m. (EST).

OCT 29 AJ BROWN TD Philadelphia Eagles receiver A.J. Brown has his second touchdown in Sunday's game against the Washington Commanders at FedEx Field.

It might not be as incredible as the one-handed grab he made in the first half, but Brown still managed to snag his second score while two defenders were on him.

OCT 29 EAGLES INACTIVES The Philadelphia Eagles visit the Washington Commanders on Sunday at FedEx Field. The two teams have revealed their inactives for the game.

Here’s who’s out for the Commanders:

OCT 26 HOLLYWOOD HURTS Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts made a rare public appearance with his longtime girlfriend, Bry Burrows, during Tuesday's TIME 100 Red Carpet Event.

Take a look:

A true professional like Hurts doesn't tend to talk openly about his personal and love life, which makes the recent appearance with Burrows a potential interesting step in the direction of something more serious. With a new five-year, $255 million contract extension, Hurts can certainly afford a fancy wedding ring if he and Burrows want to tie the knot.

The Eagles vist the Washington Commanders on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.

OCT 20 EAGLES RULE OUT TWO VS. DOLPHINS The Philadelphia Eagles have revealed their Friday injury report and provided some gameday injury designations for a two players.

As has been a theme this season, the Eagles' secondary is once again dealing with injuries. Philly has ruled out safety Reed Blankenship (ribs) and cornerback Bradley Roby (shoulder) for Sunday's game. Both didn't practice on Friday.

Luckily for Philly, cornerback Darius Slay logged a full practice and appears set to return against the Dolphins after missing Week 6's loss to the New York Jets.

Here's the full Friday injury report:

OCT 16 LANE JOHNSON INJURY UPDATE Philadelphia Eagles star offensive tackle Lane Johnson suffered an ankle injury in the first quarter Sunday's 20-14 loss to the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium. He was eventually ruled out and never returned to the game.

However, the Eagles likely won't have to wait long for Johnson to return. Per NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, sources say that Johnson could be back "real soon." This comes after Ian Rapoport tweeted that the lateral ankle sprain Johnson suffered is not expected to be a long-term issue.

"Source on this earlier said don’t be surprised if Lane Johnson is back 'real soon,'" Garafolo tweeted. "So good news for the Eagles on this one for sure."

The Eagles host the Miami Dolphins in Week 7. And while it's unlikely that Johnson will ready for Sunday, there's currently positive signs surrounding his chances to return sooner rather than later.

OCT 15 LANE JOHNSON INJURED Philadelphia Eagles offensive tackle Lane Johnson went down with an ankle injury in the first quarter of Sunday's game against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium.

Johnson, who got caught under a pile of bodies after a short run from D'Andre Swift, was seen limping toward the locker room after a breif trip to the blue medical tent on the sideline. Jack Driscoll took his place at right tackle.

The Eagles have ruled Johnson as questionable to return.

OCT. 12 JON GRUDEN POTENTIALLY A CANDIDATE IN PITTSBURGH - Jon Gruden, who two years ago this month resigned from the NFL after revelations of his racist and homophobic emails, could be a candidate for a job with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Gruden, who was the Eagles' offensive coordinator on Ray Rhodes' staff 1995-97, is currently a consultant with the Saints.

But a long-time Steelers reporter thinks he could be in line for an active coaching role in Pittsburgh. The Steelers are disgruntled with their lackluster offense, putting offensive coordinator Matt Canada on the proverbial hot seat.

In a recent chat, long-time Steelers reporter Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette said “Way too early to speculate. But a good name would be Jon Gruden.”

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin worked for Gruden in Tampa Bay. In the wake of his forced resignation, Gruden is suing the NFL and commissioner Roger Goodell.
