Philadelphia Eagles Make Notable Coaching Change With Sean Desai, Matt Patricia vs. Seattle Seahawks
The Philadelphia Eagles are making some last-minute changes to their defensive coaching staff ahead of Monday's tilt against the Seattle Seahawks at Lumen Field.
Per reports Sunday from NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Eagles are moving defensive coordinator Sean Desai from the sideline up into the coaching box while defensive assistant Matt Patricia will move to the sideline to call the plays to linebacker Nicholas Morrow, who has the "green dot" designated for receiving communication through the helmet.
Patricia, who was hired as a defensive assistant this past offseason, now fixes to have a bigger role for the defense down the final stretch of the season. Meanwhile, Desai will be taking a bit of a backseat for the time being even before completing his first full season on the job.
Rapoport said that Eagles players have taken a liking to Patricia this season, which could have played a role in the decision.
"Eagles players have been impressed with Matt Patricia. Now, he takes on a more prominent role," Rapoport tweeted.
"Philly hopes incorporating Patricia's voice will help a unit that has been a sieve of late."
Hurts' 'Worsened' Illness Adds to Eagles' Lineup Stress vs. Seahawks
Desai, like the rest of the team, has faced his fair share of criticism this season for a defensive unit that's been inconsistent and a secondary that heads into Monday surrendering the fifth-most passing yards per game (259.9) this season.
The Eagles (10-3) will look to avoid a three-game losing streak when they kickoff against the Seahawks (6-7) on Monday night at 8:15 p.m. ET.
