WATCH: Eagles QB Marcus Mariota Starring in New Netflix Premiere with Patrick Mahomes

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Marcus Mariota had his struggles with the Atlanta Falcons last season, which could make for some great storytelling on the new Netflix premiere, "Quarterback."
In this story:

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Marcus Mariota is beginning his new chapter in Philly as a backup to MVP candidate Jalen Hurts on one of the league's bonafide contenders.

But it's his brief stint with the Atlanta Falcons last season that will be drawing tons of sudden attention this offseason, as Mariota is joining Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins as stars in the new Netflix special "Quarterback," a docuseries that will follow the trio's not-so-easy journey through the 2022 season.

The series, which premieres on Wednesday, July 12, will follow each guy through the tough week of game-planning and life outside of football while including some interesting mic'd up moments on the field and sidelines from this past season.

"This is about as close as they'll ever get to seeing what it's like to be a quarterback in this league," Cousins says in the preview.

Here's a look at the trailer:

While Mahomes secured his second MVP, Super Bowl ring and Super Bowl MVP and Cousins led the Vikings to another postseason appearance, Mariota found himself in No Man's Land with the Falcons.

He began the season as the starter and got off on a solid footing, leading the Falcons to an early 3-3 record with impressive wins over the Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers.

However, despite starting the first 13 games of the season, Mariota was inconsistent, failing to top the 300-yard passing mark in each game. Once the Falcons had stumbled to a 5-8 record headed into the Week 14 bye, he was replaced by rookie quarterback Desmond Ridder, who went 2-2 over the final four games.

But Mariota's struggles of last season could make for some great storytelling on the new Netflix premiere.

Mariota finished the season having gone 184 of 300 passing for 2,219 yards, 15 touchdowns, nine interceptions, and a career-high 438 rushing yards to go along with four rushing touchdowns.

He signed a one-year, $5 million contract with the Eagles in March.
