Eagles Legend Maxie Baughan Passes Away At 85
Legendary Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Maxie Baughan has passed away at the age of 85.
Baughan played 11 seasons in the NFL, six with the Eagles, five with the Los Angeles Rams, and one with the Washington team. He was named to nine Pro Bowls, made the first-team All-Pro once and second-team All-Pro five times.
He was inducted into the Eagles Hall of Fame in 2015. In 1960, during his rookie season, he helped them win the NFL Championship over the Green Bay Packers 17-13.
Philadelphia posted an "In Memoriam" for Baughan along with a statement saying, "The Eagles are saddened to learn of the passing of Maxie Baughan."
He was taken by Philadelphia in the second round of the 1960 NFL Draft. Baughan retired from the NFL in 1971 for a brief time before returning three seasons later to be a player/coach for Washington. After one season, he retired from playing again and became the defensive coordinator for the Baltimore Colts.
Baughan served as a defensive coordinator for the Colts and the Detroit Lions. He also served as an assistant for the Minnesota Vikings, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Baltimore Ravens before retiring in 1998.
