'Biggest Loser': Eagles Top Patriots, But QB Mac Jones Up for NFL Award?

Despite taking a loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones has been nominated for a Week 1 award by the NFL.
In this story:

No Philadelphia Eagles players have been nominated for the Week 1 FedEx Air and Ground Players of the Week Award following their 25-20 win over the New England Patriots.

However, the losing side of this Eagles win does have a nominee, as Patriots quarterback Mac Jones has been named a candidate to win the FedEx Air NFL Players of the Week Award the league announced Monday  … in a loss.

In the game, Jones threw for 316 yards and three touchdowns, which is admittedly a good line.

But he also threw an interception to Philadelphia’s Darius Slay, and regardless of the circumstances leading to it, if the NFL doesn’t want to hold quarterback’s accountable for those types of plays, then we suggest they come up with a new tracking measurement for it.

We're not offering an "outraged'' opinion here ... just one we find to be logical.

Just like a quarterback that leads his team to the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft shouldn’t get MVP consideration, Jones shouldn’t get player of the week votes here, especially considering the interception proved to be a critical moment in a five-point Eagles win.

At the end of the day, it’s a minor footnote in the grand scheme of things, sure, but remember this the next time a Philadelphia player plays lights out in a loss.

Or, just continue holding out hope the Eagles don’t ever have to worry about getting a player nominated in this fashion to begin with.

Joining Jones in this week’s nominee list is another quarterback that lost, Kirk Cousins of the Minnesota Vikings, and Tua Tagovailoa, whose Miami Dolphins actually won their game. So, congratulations to Mr. Tagovailoa, from all of us here at Eagles Today.

Nominated for the ground award are running backs Nick Chubb (Cleveland Browns), Austin Ekeler (Los Angeles Chargers), and Christian McCaffrey (San Francisco 49ers). At least two of the three on the ground won their games this week.

Adding to an already strange Week 1 around the NFL, this week’s FedEx Air and Ground nominees only add to the strangeness 2023 has begun with.
