Eagles’ Nick Sirianni Reveals Why 2-0 is Best for ‘Growth’

With a 2-0 record many might thing the Philadelphia Eagles are feeling pretty good. Coach Nick Sirianni, however, sees a team with much to improve on moving forward.
In this story:

The Philadelphia Eagles came into the season as favorites to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl again at the end of the year.

With a 2-0 start to the season, many who projected the Eagles to be one of the best in the league are feeling pretty good about themselves.

In Philadelphia, however, coach Nick Sirianni’s message isn’t about celebrating the undefeated start, but getting better in spite of it so they don’t get caught short down the road.

“It’s way easier to correct when you are 2-0 and no one’s feelings are in it,” Sirianni says. “We didn’t play our cleanest game. I think the first week was a cleaner game for the defense and not as clean for the offense and vice versa with [Thursday night] … A lot of teams would like to be sitting 2-0. Like I said, when you are in this position, and guys don’t know that we aren’t playing to the best of our abilities, that’s when you can make a lot of growth.”

In its Week 1 win over the New England Patriots, Philadelphia’s defense allowed three passing touchdowns for opposing quarterback Mac Jones, but also intercepted him once - returning that for a touchdown.

The Eagles defense also got two sacks on Jones and held the Patriots to just 76 yards rushing on 22 tries.

In Week 2, the defense allowed four touchdown passes and got zero interceptions let alone a pick-six, so it was necessary for the offense to respond.

Quarterback Jalen Hurts did just enough with his 193 yards passing and one touchdown throw by adding 35 yards and two rushing scores on the ground.

In that game - Philadelphia running back D’Andre Swift’s coming out party - the first-year roster member tacked on 175 yards on the ground with 28 carries and caught three passes for his quarterback as well.

The wins haven’t been supremely complimentary, but the Eagles have shown they have strengths on both sides of the ball.

If they continue to do that, then a win against the undefeated Tampa Bay Buccaneers next Monday night is certainly feasible, and after that it’s a home loss revenge game in Week 4 as the Washington Commanders come back to town.
