Philadelphia Eagles Players Support Coach Brian Johnson Amid Offensive Struggles
The Philadelphia Eagles' offense has taken a turn for the worse in recent weeks, putting up abysmal performances in losses against the San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys in back-to-back games.
Despite the struggles, many of the players, including offensive tackle Jordan Mailata, have expressed their continued support for first-year offensive coordinator Brian Johnson.
"You can’t win games when you turn over the ball, get silly false starts," Mailata said via 94WIP. "There’s been tremendous growth from Brian’s side, we’re just doing a terrible job at executing the plays he’s called.”
This season, the Eagles are averaging 26.3 points per game through 13 games, which ranks sixth in the NFL. Last year, under former offensive coordinator Shane Steichen, they averaged 28.1 points per game which was good for the third-best scoring offense in the league.
A lot of the criticism of Johnson has been focused around his situational play calling, specifically in the red zone. Philadelphia has a solid red-zone offense statistically, scoring 29 touchdowns on 48 trips for a 60.4 percent success rate, which ranks 10th in the league. However, against the 49ers and the Cowboys, the Eagles were 2-for-5 in the red zone in addition to two fumbles that came deep in Dallas territory.
The team has struggled to finish drives this season, leaving points on the board and making games unnecessarily closer than they had to be. It's a problem that Philadelphia has been able to win in spite of, until recently when it played the two other top teams in the NFC.

The Eagles will get a chance to put their struggles behind them when they hit the road to take on the Seattle Seahawks this week for Monday Night Football at 8:15 p.m. ET.
