Eagles RB D'Andre Swift Wins NFC Offensive Player of Week
Philadelphia Eagles running back D'Andre Swift has been named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week after his performance in Week 2's 34-28 win over the Minnesota Vikings.
With Kenneth Gainwell out due to a rib injury, the Eagles backfield belonged to Swift, who rushed 28 times for a career-high 175 yards and one touchdown while adding three grabs for six yards.
In his first appearance as an Eagle, Swift managed just two touches for three yards in a 25-20 Week 1 win over the New England Patriots.
But coming back to his hometown of Philly for his second game as an Eagle on Thursday against Minnesota seemed to light something beneath him, as Swift turned in a storybook-like performance as a result. It was his touchdown that sealed the deal for Philly in the late stages of the fourth quarter.
“I was just locked in on the task at hand, but it’s great being back in my hometown and being able to come out with the win first and foremost,” Swift said. “ ... Everything tonight was amazing. It’s a blessing to have the love and support from the people I grew up around from high school."
Swift has received praise from his teammates as a result of the career-best performance last week.
“He’s like a little – I can’t really call him Mighty Mouse, there’s already one of those – how about Mighty Possum?” Eagles left tackle Jordan Mailata said. “He’s just real fast. He just hits it. That’s kind of why you practice, man.
Swift and the Eagles will look to move to 3-0 when they take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium on Monday night.
