Eagles RBs Revealed as Roster's 'Weak Link' Despite New Additions

ESPN has made the selection for what its perceives as the Philadelphia Eagles' 'weak link.'
In this story:

Despite the Philadelphia Eagles' overall roster strength, particularly on offense, they are not without their imperfections regardless of the return of nine starters from last season.

ESPN recently ranked every team's supporting cast, and the Eagles showcased the third-strongest group of skill players surrounding quarterback Jalen Hurts. However, the site is not sold on the Eagles' running back unit, calling it the team's "weakest link" despite some notable offseason additions.

"The weak link is at running back, but even the options there are interesting," ESPN writes. "In addition to holdovers Kenneth Gainwell and Boston Scott, the Eagles imported two new options. D'Andre Swift and Rashaad Penny have both been efficient when healthy, but neither has managed to stay on the field often as a pro."

With the departure of 2022 Pro Bowl running back Miles Sanders to the Carolina Panthers this offseason, the Eagles are now faced with the challenge of filling his shoes.

The additions of Penny and Swift means the Eagles are likely to opt for a running back by committee approach, rather than relying on a single lead back in the offense. This strategy should prove beneficial to both Swift and Penny, considering their history of dealing with multiple injuries throughout their careers.

The Eagles' success last season, which resulted in a Super Bowl appearance, was greatly attributed to their potent rushing attack. With an average of 152 rushing yards per game, the Eagles ranked fourth-best in the NFL.

As they aim to maintain that production level following the departure of Sanders, it becomes crucial for Penny and Swift to step up and fill that void. It will be vital to the Eagles' success in the upcoming season if they can replicate the production that Sanders provided.
