Eagles Safety Need: Sign 3-Time Super Bowl Champ Duron Harmon?
The Philadelphia Eagles do not have "roster holes.'' But that doesn't mean there aren't "roster concerns,'' and the turnover from last year's Super Bowl finalist should, we think, have general manager Howie Roseman eyeballing his safety situation.
We've written recently that the Eagles will be working to replace seven starters ... and we've examined how to do that with players already on the roster. Or ...
Maybe the Eagles dip back into free agency with a "local guy made good'' in safety Duron Harmon, the still-unsigned Las Vegas Raiders safety.
Harmon is on the wrong side of 30 (he's 32) but has been a snap-eater for three years with the Raiders. Before that, the 6-0, 205-pound Harmon - who hails from Magnolia, Delaware and played at Rutgers - helped the Patriots win three Super Bowls. (He's played in four ... with one loss coming at the hands of the Eagles.)
PFF is suggesting that as an Eagles "insurance'' signing, noting that Harmon earned a 77.6 coverage grade in 2022, with multiple interceptions for the sixth year in a row, to go along with a career-high 67 tackles.
One of the more notable losses for the offseason Eagles was safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson's jump to the Lions. Out the door went a play-making safety ... and now Philly is sort of crossing its fingers at the position.
That Budda Baker idea? It's a "sexy'' one, but prying him away from Arizona is a costly concept. Harmon still being on the free agency shelf speaks to how affordable this could be. And the Eagles roster speaks to how one more move might be needed.
