Philadelphia Eagles Stifle Miami Dolphins Offense in Convincing Win

The Philadelphia Eagles brotherly shoved their way to an impressive win over the Miami Dolphins.

The Philadelphia Eagles left little doubt about their legitimacy as a Super Bowl contender after taking down the Miami Dolphins in a convincing 31-17 win at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday night.

Celebrating a blast from the past by sporting special Kelly Green uniforms, the Eagles showed that the fancy attire was hardly their focus, as they held an elite Miami offense to a season-low 244 yards. The Dolphins offense only pickled up 12 first downs for the game and went scoreless in the second half.

Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts finished the game 23 of 31 passing for 279 yards, two touchdowns and one pick. He connected with star receiver A.J. Brown 10 times for 137 yards and a touchdown.

Despite the solid stat line, it didn't seem like it would be smooth sailing for Hurts and the offense after he lost a fumble while being sacked on the Eagles' second drive. But he responded by putting together back-to-back touchdown drives that featured a 19-yard catch-and-run score from tight end Dallas Goedert and a "Brotherly Shove" one-yard touchdown from Hurts.

On the other side, Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, Hurts' former teammate at Alabama, was never able to catch and rhythm against a deep Philly defensive line. He went 23 of 32 passing for 216 yards, one touchdown and one pick. Dolphins star receiver Tyreek Hill finished with 11 catches for 88 yards and a touchdown, which came in the final minute of the first half and was Miami's only offensive touchdown.

The turning point of the game came at the start of the fourth quarter with the Dolphins and Tagovailoa threatening at the goal line while trailing 24-17. But facing a 3rd and 8, Tagovailoa forced a throw to the one-yard line that was picked by Eagles cornerback Darius Slay.

The takeaway allowed the Eagles to salt away the game with a 13-play, 83-yard drive that took up 6:35 of game time and saw Philly convert a 4th and 1 from its own 26-yard line. The drive ended with a three-yard touchdown run from Kenneth Gainwell that essentially sealed the win with less than five minutes to play.

The Eagles will now travel to face the Washington Commanders in Week 8.
