Philly's 'Optimism': Eagles' Super Bowl Window 'Just Opening'?

Even after losing the Super Bowl last season, the Philadelphia Eagles head into this season knowing their championship window just opened.

It would be easy to look at the Philadelphia Eagles coming up just short against the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl and be disappointed. After all, the ultimate goal every season is to hoist the Lombardi Trophy.

While that disappointment is 100-percent valid and understandable, it should not take away from any potential optimism heading into this season. That's our perspective. And our pals at Bleacher Report share the view, believing the Super Bowl represents the beginning of their championship window.

"The Eagles fell short of winning Super Bowl LVII, which has surely left a bad taste in the collective mouths of the Philadelphia faithful," Bleacher Report writes. "Those willing to look on the bright side, however, can recognize that the franchise's championship window has only just opened."

Perhaps the most important move made by the Eagles this offseason was locking superstar quarterback Jalen Hurts into a five-year, $225 million extension. Hurts is coming off a career year in 2022, which saw him throw for 3,701 yards and 22 touchdowns while adding 760 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns on the ground.

Keeping Hurts in Philadelphia for the foreseeable future was a big win for Howie Roseman and the rest of the front office, but it is not the only key move they pulled off.

They acquired running back D'Andre Swift in a trade with the Detroit Lions while retaining the cornerback duo of James Bradberry and Darius Slay. Not only that but they nailed the draft, most notably landing Jalen Carter and Nolan Smith out of Georgia to bolster the defensive front.

The Eagles are having to replace seven starters. There is no guarantee that all of the kids step up. But there is talent and there is depth and there is Hurts. Those things are foundational.

Winning the Super Bowl is no easy task, as only one team out of 32 can do so every year. The Eagles might not do it this season, or maybe even the season after, but the current roster construction has them set up to be contenders for the foreseeable future.
