Philadelphia Eagles Survive Late Scare vs. Dallas Cowboys, Secure Critical Division Win

The Philadelphia Eagles didn't let their fans go home happy with a win before raising their blood pressure to dangerous levels at the end of Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys.

The Philadelphia Eagles had the entire organization's collective heart rate reach concerning levels thanks to a thrilling final minute in Sunday's meeting with the Dallas Cowboys at Lincoln Financial Field.

But behind a final defensive stand and some key sacks late, the Eagles (8-1) secured a dramatic 28-23 win over the Cowboys (5-3).

Two penalties in the final minute by the Eagles defense gave the Cowboys life after Dallas was pinned back at its own 14-yard line with 48 seconds left and no timeouts. Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott then found CeeDee Lamb for a 14-yard gain to suddenly put Dallas in the red zone at the 11-yard line with 27 seconds left. But multiple pre-snap penalties from the Cowboys, a big sack from Josh Sweat and a final stop of Lamb at the Eagles four-yard line ended the game in Philly's favor.

On the previous Cowboys drive, Philly got a pair of key back-to-back sacks from Brandon Graham on Prescott prior to the two-minute warning as the Cowboys were looking to take the lead while trailing 28-23. Dallas went for it on 4th and 8, but Eagles cornerback James Bradberry got the stop against Tolbert.

Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts battled some clear injury discomfort before finishing the night 17 of 23 passing for 207 yards and two scores. He also added a one-yard rushing touchdown. His touchdown passes to A.J. Brown (seven catches, 66 yards) and DeVonta Smith (three catches, 51 yards) in the third quarter proved to be the difference, as the Eagles defense was able to salt away the win in the fourth quarter while defending a 28-17 lead.

But Prescott made things interesting till the final second. He arguably out-dueled an ailing Hurts, finishing 29 of 44 passing for 374 yards and three touchdowns. However, taking five sacks and having his foot step out prior to converting a huge two-point conversion in the fourth quarter to keep it at a five-point game proved to be the difference.

Lamb torched the Eagles secondary with 11 grabs for 191 yards, but it was tight end Jake Ferguson and receivers KaVontae Turpin and Jalen Tolbert who each had a receiving touchdown.

The Eagles will now head into their bye week before taking on the Kansas City Chiefs in a Super Bowl rematch at Arrowhead on Monday, Nov. 20.
