Top 25 Current Eagles: Terrell Edmunds Answers Philly's Need at Safety
PHILADELPHIA – The ‘Help Wanted’ sign hung outside the offices at the training facility of the Philadelphia Eagles for about a week once free agency began this offseason.
The Eagles had already lost safety Marcus Epps to the Las Vegas Raiders in free agency and they knew, after making an offer to Chauncey Gardner-Johnson and being rebuffed, were going to lose him, too.
Hence the ‘Help Wanted’ sign; the Eagles needed safeties.
First, Justin Evans signed a week after free agency began. Three days later, on March 24, the 22nd-ranked player in our top 25 best Eagles arrived:
S TERRELL EDMUNDS
The process behind the top-25 list started with Eagles beat writer Ed Kracz and John McMullen putting together their own top 25 players independent of each other’s rankings and then assigning point values, with 25 points awarded to the player ranked first on each list, 24 to the player ranked second, and so on, with one point going to the player that was put 25th.
The highest ranking from either reporter breaks any ties in the ballot.
Edmunds got the nod over Evans, who did not make the list.
Edmunds ranked higher for McMullen, who had him at No. 21, while he was the last player on Kracz’s list, checking in at No. 25.
A former first-round pick out of Virginia Tech in 2018 of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Edmunds started 75 games during his five seasons in the Steel City.
He will likely be one of the starters opposite second-year undrafted free agent Reed Blankenship, who checked in at No. 23 in our rankings.
Running back Kenny Gainwell came in at No. 25 with linebacker Nicholas Morrow in at No. 24.
“The transition, it’s going well,” Edmunds said in early June. “It’s still continuing to develop, continuing to learn the playbook, continuing to mesh with my teammates. Get familiarized with everyone, and just compete, keep on working. We got a long way to go, but we’re still working together, and we’re trying to come together.
“Just because you’re learning new faces, you’re learning new names, you’re learning new calls, but I think everything is coming together well. We got a great group of guys in the DB room. We got some great coaches. And we’re all just working together, trying to help each other compete every day, and trying to each other better.”
Edmunds should be familiar with some of his new teammates.
He has played in DeVonta Smith’s celebrity softball game in both years of its existence despite still being with the Steelers in the inaugural game.
