Eagles Trade A.J. Brown? Truth Behind ‘Laughable’ Rumor

Despite recent rumors surrounding a potential trade in the offseason, logic says the Philadelphia Eagles and All-Pro wide receiver AJ Brown aren't going their separate ways just yet.
In this story:

Would the Philadelphia Eagles, fresh off a Super Bowl appearance a year ago, trade one of the biggest reasons they got there in the first place?

Surely not, right?

That's the question at hand when Philadelphia's top sports radio outlet, 94.1 WIP, teased a potential trade of All-Pro wide receiver AJ Brown.

Brown, 26, is coming off a season where he set a franchise record for receptions, and the most receiving yards in a two-year stretch. During that time, the former Titan has become a vocal leader in the locker room despite media assertions of him being angry with best friend and quarterback Jalen Hurts.

Luckily for Eagle fans, and the franchise in general, those reports of a potential trade don't seem to have any traction. Or logic.

It would always be foolish for the Eagles to let a key piece of their offensive puzzle leave - especially one that is only 26 years old and entering the prime of his career.

It also doesn't hurt that his dead cap hit would cost the Birds over $42 million.

In short, it's laughable to assume that Brown would actually be traded, just as it's laughable to assume that every time he is frustrated on the field it is actually some deeper meaning of why he is no longer friends with the guy who is godfather to his daughter.

If the parties did somehow desire a divorce? A post-June 1 trade would lessen the immediate cap pain. But the cap piper would still need to be paid … and Philly would be paying the cap to NOT employ an All-Pro in his prime.

Logic and math said Brown is here to stay in Philadelphia. And ultimately, despite the tulmitt of 2023, that's a great thing for everyone involved.
