Eagles Trade for Bears QB Justin Fields? 'Wouldn't Be Surprised' Says Insider
The Philadelphia Eagles made one of the more surprising moves during a wild free-agency frenzy across the league on Monday by reaching a contract agreement with New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley, but there's another jaw-dropping move that would definitely top it.
Per NFL insider Benjamin Allbright, the Eagles and Indianapolis Colts are seen as potential landing spots for Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields as a backup in the event that the Bears trade him.
"Wouldn't be surprised if Justin Fields winds up as a backup with the Colts or Eagles," Allbright tweeted Monday. "Several teams that were being reported were never in play, and the market has been incredibly thin on him as the Bears have shopped him for a few weeks."
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said Monday that Chicago hasn't yet engaged in trade talks for Fields, but "seem to be open" to doing so. Stranger things have happened. The Bears hold the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, and many expect them to select Caleb Williams, which potentially pushes Fields out of the picture.
The Eagles signed Marcus Mariota as the backup to Jalen Hurts last offseason, but he under-performed in the preseason and in limited regular-season action. Many fans pushed for rookie quarterback Tanner McKee to be the full-time backup after an impressive preseason, but he'd be pushed down the pecking order if Fields were to land in Philly.

Time will tell how realistic the Eagles-Fields rumors are. Regardless, the Bears will have some QB questions to figure out before the draft starts on Thursday, April 25 in Detroit.
