Philadelphia Eagles vs. Kansas City Chiefs - Monday Night Football Super Bowl Rematch: How to Watch, Betting Odds
The Eagles head to Kansas City to take on the Chiefs on Monday Night Football in a rematch of last season's Super Bowl. Aside from the main event of the game itself, this matchup is full of storylines.
Revenge will be the theme of the day as the Super Bowl loss is no doubt still fresh on the minds of some Eagles players who were on the field this past February.
Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts and Chiefs signal caller Patrick Mahomes lead two of the league's top 10 offenses, and Mahomes was the MVP of February's championship showdown after leading a second-half come-from-behind charge for the win.
Also at stake on Monday night? Chiefs coach Andy Reid can pass Hank Stram as the winningest coach in Chiefs history with a win. He would be the first coach to hold that designation with two different teams. The other team? Philadelphia, of course.
“It's going to be a great game. You've got great teams in general,” Mahomes said. “Jalen is a great quarterback but I think just the whole entire team on both sides — two teams that usually find a way to get a win, playing on Monday Night Football in front of the whole world. I think it's going to be a great game.”
The Eagles and Chiefs each lead their respective conferences in the standings, and late-season byes have helped both remain fresh for the final run of the season. But the standings in both the AFC and NFC are so tight that both need to keep winning to maintain their edge and the coveted first-round bye in the playoffs.
“Our job is to get prepared for this game,” said Eagles coach Nick Sirianni, who watched video of their Super Bowl showdown this week.
“What happened in the past, happened in the past," Sirianni continued. "We'll learn from our mistakes. We'll get better from the things we did well. But I would be lying if I didn't say, ‘Argh, if this would have happened or that would have happened,’ once in a while. But we're not dwelling on it."
