Whatever Happens, Super Bowl LVII Will be Last Time These Eagles Play Together

Players recall a season together, as it now looks like two of Philly's coordinators could be moving on as well to become head coaches
In this story:

GLENDALE, Ariz. – Win or lose Super Bowl LVII on Sunday, this will be the last time you will see this Eagles team together. Ever.

There will be changes in personnel, as always, but on a team that has more than a dozen key free agents, the offseason could bring the kind of churn unseen in years for this roster.

Then there’s the coaching staff.

Head coach Nick Sirianni didn’t lose anybody last offseason.

This offseason could see both offensive coordinator Shane Steichen and defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon leave for head coaching openings.

Sunday dawned and there were reports from NFL Media and ESPN that Steichen was the frontrunner for the Colts job while Gannon will interview with the Cardinals on Monday.

Whether or not that sort of news is a distraction or not won’t be known until sometime Sunday night when the winner of Eagles-Chiefs will be known.

“I just want to go out there and do what needs to be done to get this win,” said QB Jalen Hurts. “You talk about games like this, this is a game where this is the last one. It’s the last one that this team will go out there and play together. We had our last Thursday practice today, little things like that resonate with us.

Besides anything else that comes with it, we all just want to go and leave it all out on the line, let it all hang and do what we have to do.”

Whatever happens, it was a run, like the Phillies’ march to the World Series, to be remembered.

“It’s definitely been one of my favorite years of ever playing football,” said CB Avonte Maddox, earlier in the week. “That’s number one. Then just being able to play with this group which, as you can see is definitely a challenging group, but more than that, it’s a funny group. We’re always joking around, especially on the back end.

“This year has definitely been awesome. We made it this far and we got this last week to spend together. Usually we’re home with our family, practicing, getting ready for next season right now, but now we’re practicing, still with the guys throughout the hotel. We’re going out to eat. We got this last week to spend a little longer with each other, connect, and that makes it cool.”

Added safety Marcus Epps: “This team will always hold a special place in my heart, I had a lot of fun with this group this year.”
